Applications of the supercapacitor include energy harvesting for wireless sensor networks, where it efficiently stores and delivers power as needed. It provides peak power support for GSM/GPRS transmissions, ensuring stable communication performance. The device also supports low-power batteries, such as Lithium Thionyl Chloride, during high-load events like automatic meter reading and end-of-life "last gasp" transmissions. Additionally, it delivers reliable peak power to operate locks, actuators, and portable drug delivery systems. The supercapacitor serves as a short-term bridging power source to maintain operation during brief power interruptions or battery hot swaps, enhancing system reliability and uptime.
